Incorporating essential oils for skincare into your skincare routine can be quite tricky. Use them wisely, and it will bring a host of benefits for your skin. If you're interested in learning how to make your own skincare formulations using essential oils? Read on...

skincare_beautyOne of the best benefits that essential oils offer includes helping you achieve the healthy and glowing skin that everybody wants.

Using essential oils for skincare and beauty products as key ingredients is the hype nowadays. There’s also a great debate between the pros and cons of essential oils for use in a skincare regimen. Prolonged exposure to essential oils can cause skin irritation. But the healing and nourishing properties of certain essential oils can be a potent solution to stubborn skin issues.

Getting essential oils into your skincare routine can be quite tricky. Most essential oils cause skin irritation, especially if you don’t dilute them with a carrier oil. However, there are many commercial skincare products which use a percentage of essential oils. For this matter, essential oils can play a significant factor in treating skin imperfections and giving you that pleasant glow.

Dara Kennedy, founder of Ayla Beauty, states that essential oils can do positive and powerful things to the skin, but they should be used carefully. With the right steps in blending, mixing and complementing ingredients to your skincare products, you’ll be able to make the most out of the skin nourishing benefits of essential oils.

The best thing you can do is to find which essential oil works for you, since everyone has different skin types and reactions to products. Doing a patch test first is crucial. Allowing yourself a week or two to check how your skin reacts to a skincare ingredient and formula will help you know which truly works for you.

We did a side-by-side comparison with two of the world's biggest essential oil brands.

Essential Oils for Skincare and Beauty

1. Lemongrass

Lemongrass is typically considered to be an ingredient in various dishes, but lemongrass essential oil can be used for a whole host of purposes. It’s not often that lemongrass is considered when it comes to skincare, though it can certainly help with a lot of skin issues.

While this fact isn’t very well-known, lemongrass is actually a good astringent and antibacterial. It can thus help deal with acne issues, since it can also help control the skin’s oil production without being too drying. This makes lemongrass oil effective at dealing with acne-prone skin.

Interestingly, lemongrass also has antifungal properties. You can thus use it to help you manage the symptoms of fungal skin infections such as athlete’s foot and other similar types of skin conditions. You can apply lemongrass topically, but make sure that you dilute it with a carrier oil.
