  1. Patch Testing: Make sure you do a patch test on your skin for sensitivity prior to applying essential oils on more areas of your body. Make sure to do the patch test on your feet or forearm to ensure that you don’t experience irritation like redness, burning, hives, or allergic reactions. Keep the essential oil away from your eyes and the insides of your ears or nose.
  2. Pregnant or Nursing Women: These essential oils should be avoided by pregnant or breastfeeding women. The oils may have an impact on hormonal levels, muscle condition, or nerve functioning. It’s also not appropriate for anyone with epilepsy.

  4. For Cedarwood Essential Oil: Pregnant women, especially in their first trimester, should use cedarwood with caution. Do not ingest as it can cause nausea, vomiting, and digestive problems.
  5. For Mandarin Essential Oil: When under exposure to the sun, refrain from using mandarin oil as it can increase the risk of sun damage to the skin.
  6. For Basil Essential Oil: Basil should be avoided by pregnant or breastfeeding women as it can have an impact on hormonal levels, muscle condition, or nerve functioning. It’s also not safe for anyone with epilepsy.


How to Use Essential Oils for Sleep

There are many different ways you can use essential oils for sleep. You can use them on aromatic and topical applications to help get your mind and body ready for slumber. Here are just a few ways you can benefit from the calming and relaxing properties of essential oils.


1. How to Use Lavender Essential Oil

Bedroom: Add a few drops of lavender oil to beddings, blankets or pillows for a good night’s sleep.

Aromatherapy: Use aromatically to feel more calm and relaxed. Add a few drops to your diffuser, and use the required settings to diffuse the oil while you’re sleeping.

Facial Steamer: Pour distilled water in a facial steamer and wait for it to steam. Then, add 1 - 2 drops of lavender essential oil. Position your face over the facial steamer and inhale the scent. You can also do this facial steam by boiling two cups of water in a pot over medium heat. When the water steams, turn off the stovetop and pour 2 drops of lavender oil. Cover your head with a towel and inhale this calming steam for a few minutes.


2. How to Use Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

In the Bath: Mix ylang ylang oil with Epsom salt and pour in your bathwater for a relaxing dip.

Emotional Balance: Mix a few drops of ylang ylang essential oil with a carrier oil and apply on your chest for emotional balance.

Facial Steam: Add 5 drops of ylang ylang essential oil to a bowl of hot water. Drape a bath towel over your head and breathe in deeply over the steam. Do this relaxing steam for 3 - 10 minutes

Aromatherapy: Add 3 - 4 drops of ylang ylang oil to your diffuser and let its calming scent diffuse in your room before bedtime.

Massage: Add 6 drops of ylang ylang essential oil to 1 tablespoon of carrier oil (jojoba, almond or fractionated coconut oi). Gently apply this massage blend into sore or tense areas. After which, add a few drops of ylang ylang oil to a tissue and inhale slowly for 4 - 5 times.

Natural Air Freshener: Add a few drops of ylang ylang oil to a spray bottle filled with distilled water. Spritz all over your room to experience its refreshing and calming scent.

3. How to Use Bergamot Essential Oil

Aromatherapy:  Diffuse at home, in the classroom, or at the office to create an uplifting, inspiring, and positive environment. Note that you must be careful if you're going to use essential oils in public. Some people might be allergic to strong scents, or some might simply find them unpleasant. Massage: Combine a couple of drops with a carrier oil or vegetable oil and use the mixture for an invigorating massage. In the Bath: You can also add it to your bath, which will not only be great for your skin but also make you feel fresher and happier. Refreshing Room Spray: You can use mandarin essential oil to create your own air freshener and spray in your home. It'll bring great mental benefits and make your house smell great! Linen Spray: Add 25 drops of mandarin oil and 1 tablespoon of witch hazel to 1 cup of distilled water. Mix all ingredients in a glass spray bottle and shake well before use. 6. How to Use Basil Essential Oil

Sore Muscles: Mix a few drops of basil essential oil with a carrier oil. Apply to sore or fatigued muscle and joints for relief. To experience more relief, inhale the aroma of the essential oil first and then apply a diluted mixture to the crown of the head, forehead, chest, and navel.

  • 4 drops of cedarwood essential oil
  • 3 drops of lavender essential oil

7.2. Lavender Bliss

Add the following drops of essential oils to your preferred aromatherapy diffuser or inhaler to promote peaceful sleep.

  • 3 drops of bergamot essential oil
  • 3 drops of lavender essential oil

7.5. Relaxing Bath Salts

Bath salts are easy to make and use. They also have amazing health benefits. Here’s one recipe that gives you a relaxing bath to soothe both your mind and body.


  • 4 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 4 drops of cedarwood essential oil
  • 1 cup Epsom salt
  • ¼ cup sea salt
  • ¼ cup baking soda

Instructions: Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl. Make sure that the essential oils are evenly distributed. Store the bath salts in an airtight container. Use ¼ to ½ cup of this salt blend for every bath

Another blend idea: One alternative to the essential oil blend above that you can use in the bath salt recipe is to mix 2 drops of lavender, 3 drops mandarin and 4 drops cedarwood.
